Former Glory boxing titlist Artyom Vakhytov steps into the MMA arena for the first time
In the world of combat sports, two exciting newcomers are set to make their MMA debuts on June 11th. Artem Vakhitov, a former Glory professional kickboxing world champion, and Ashraf Bashaandi, an experienced professional grappler, will face off at Open FC 31 in Sheregesh, Kemerovo Oblast.
Vakhitov, a 32-year-old Russian, has a rich history in kickboxing. He has been fighting in the Glory league since 2013 and became the champion in the light heavyweight division in 2016. His last fight under the Glory promotion was in September 2021, where he won a unanimous decision against Alex Pereira. Vakhitov then took a break from kickboxing and ventured into Muay Thai, competing at the Muaythai Factory event in Kemerovo in February 2022, where he also won a unanimous decision against French fighter Pascal Touré.
Vakhitov's MMA debut marks a new chapter in his career. His opponent will be Ashraf Bashaandi, a 4-1 winner in his four amateur MMA events. Bashaandi, an Egyptian, has a background in grappling, much like Vakhitov's specialty.
Bashaandi's professional MMA record is yet to be seen, as he has not been previously mentioned in the context of professional MMA fights. However, his amateur MMA experience should not be underestimated. His win-loss record of 4-1 in amateur MMA events showcases his potential and readiness for the professional stage.
As for Vakhitov, his professional kickboxing record stands at 19 wins and 5 losses, with 8 knockouts. His experience and skills in kickboxing, combined with his recent success in Muay Thai, make him a formidable opponent for Bashaandi.
The MMA world eagerly awaits the clash between these two talented fighters. The event at Open FC 31 promises to be an exciting one, marking the beginning of a new journey for both Vakhitov and Bashaandi in the MMA arena.
