In a recent development, German bicycle manufacturer Cube has initiated a recall campaign for certain bicycle and e-bike models due to safety-critical defects. The defects, if not addressed, could potentially cause accidents.

The affected models are not specified in the text, but dealers in Stuttgart are offering free checks for the recalled bicycles. Dealers such as Fahrrad XXL Walcher in Deizisau, Fahrradshop Ruit in Ostfildern, BikesnBoards in Stuttgat-Mitte, Fahrrad.de Store in Stuttgart-West, Fahrrad Geschäft Radschlag in Stuttgart Vaihingen, Lucky Bike in Stuttgart Stammheim, Cube Store in Stuttgart Vaihingen, and Cube Store in Stuttgart Ost are among those offering sales and service.

MegaBike in Stuttgart also offers an inspection for Cube bicycles, even for those not bought there. If necessary, the crank should be tightened, and the manufacturer covers the repair costs at authorized Cube dealers.

Customers at Fahrrad XXL Walcher were informed about the recall campaign about two weeks ago. Around 1,600 customers were informed by email or letter about the recall, over 200 of them have already booked a service appointment. Newly sold models at Fahrrad XXL Walcher are checked and documented before handover.

Jakob Hirsch, deputy managing director of Fahrrad XXL Walcher, reports that the store was informed about the recall campaign about two weeks ago. Customers are advised to independently check for any play in the crank arm before each ride, and if play is detected, the bike should not be ridden further and should be taken to a bike shop for repair.

It's important to note that this recall does not concern certain carbon wheel models (ERC, CRC, HEC, and ARC families) due to delamination issues, but these are related to wheelsets, not Cube bicycles specifically.

If you own a Cube bicycle in Stuttgart and are concerned about safety or recalls, the best recommended action would be to check Cube’s official website or contact authorized Cube dealers for any announcements about recalls on specific Cube models. For affected parts like wheels (if Cube bikes are equipped with recalled DT Swiss wheels), stop using the affected parts immediately and consult the dealer for inspection or replacement. Follow any official recall instructions provided by Cube or relevant manufacturers.

The first replacement parts have already arrived at Fahrrad XXL Walcher, with larger deliveries expected in the week starting August 18. A staff member has been assigned at Fahrrad XXL Walcher to handle the inspection of the affected bicycles exclusively. Cube recommends that all customers with the affected bicycles have them checked by a specialist dealer or directly at a Cube sales point.

On an unrelated note, the broadcast of the bridge demolition on A81 in Böblingen starts on Friday evening at 9 pm. Viewers can watch the work live from home. A serious traffic accident occurred on a district road between Mötzingen and Bondorf (Böblingen district) on Friday, resulting in one person being seriously injured.
