GHC Capital Markets Rescues UK Investment Clubs After Interactive Investor Closure

Interactive Investor customers have until October 27, 2025, to close their investment club accounts. The broker's decision to shut down these accounts has opened an opportunity for amateur investing groups in Britain to continue their activities with GHC Capital Markets.

Interactive Investor's closure affects investment clubs, groups of friends or colleagues who learn to invest together, share knowledge, and make trades. These clubs often pool modest monthly sums and meet in person to decide on investments. Members may need to report and pay capital gains tax if their total taxable gains exceed the annual allowance.

GHC Capital Markets, an investment management and stock broking firm, has stepped in to preserve this tradition. They will provide a home for these clubs, allowing them to continue playing the stock market. To set up an investment club with GHC Capital Markets, groups need a regulated broker, a formal club agreement, a dedicated bank account, and to notify HMRC. Members will receive a written statement of their gains and losses at the end of each tax year.

GHC Capital Markets also hopes to offer optional educational sessions for investment clubs, covering topics such as equities and market fundamentals. This is a welcome development for investment clubs in Germany, which often focus on education and practical investing experience, and are organized as Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) like GmbH or GmbH & Co. KG, providing limited liability and streamlined investment processes.

Interactive Investor's closure of investment club accounts has led to GHC Capital Markets stepping in to support these groups. With the right setup and optional educational sessions, investment clubs can continue to thrive, preserving a long-standing tradition in amateur investing.
