GM Appoints Tesla Veteran Jens Peter Clausen as New Head of Global Manufacturing and Sustainability
General Motors has appointed a new head of global manufacturing and sustainability. Jens Peter Clausen takes over from Gary Littlejohn, who held the position since January 2023. Clausen brings a wealth of experience from his time at Tesla and Google.
Clausen's appointment follows the retirement of long-time employee Gerald Johnson, who spent 44 years at GM. Clausen previously led electric vehicle propulsion system production at Tesla's Gigafactory 1, demonstrating his expertise in sustainable manufacturing. Before Tesla, he worked at Google as a vice president of engineering, focusing on data center product development and process optimization. GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra expects Clausen's skills to drive high-quality vehicle production and contribute to the company's future success.
Jens Peter Clausen begins his new role at GM, succeeding Gary Littlejohn. His background in electric vehicle production and process optimization at Tesla, coupled with his experience at Google, positions him well to lead GM's global manufacturing and sustainability efforts.
