Google & Amazon Unveil New Smart Speakers with Advanced AI & Audio

Google and Amazon have both announced new smart speakers, each with advanced AI capabilities and improved audio systems. The Google Home Speaker, the first device to feature Google's Gemini AI, will be available in spring 2026, while Amazon's Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio are set to release on October 29.

The Google Home Speaker, priced at $99/ £99.99, offers a 360-degree spatial audio experience and enhanced sound quality. It requires a Google Home Premium subscription for advanced features like Gemini Live conversations and 30 days of video history, which costs $10 per month or $100 annually. However, this Standard plan is included at no extra cost for Google AI Pro subscribers.

Amazon's Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio, available for preorder now, also boast 360-degree spatial audio and upgraded sound systems. The Echo Dot Max will retail for $59.99, while the Echo Studio is priced at $229.99. Both devices are compatible with Fire TV sticks for surround sound.

Amazon's Alexa+ service, which offers advanced features like ultra-high-definition music streaming, is US-only and costs $19.99 a month, or is included with a Prime membership. Google, on the other hand, is prioritizing the rollout of Gemini for Home in early access to existing speakers and smart displays.

Both Google and Amazon's new speakers offer impressive audio capabilities and advanced AI features. While Google's Home Speaker will hit the market in spring 2026, Amazon's Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio are set to release on October 29. Subscription plans for advanced features vary between the two companies, with Google's plans starting at $10 per month and Amazon's Alexa+ service costing $19.99 a month.
