Google.org Launches Generative AI Cohort to Empower Nonprofits

Google.org has launched its Accelerator: Generative AI Cohort, a six-month program supporting nonprofits in developing high-impact generative Gemini applications. The initiative, aiming to tackle issues like climate change, economic opportunities, health, education, and crisis response, has selected five organizations from four countries. Kenyan nonprofits Jacaranda Health and EIDU are the only African representatives in this cohort. Google.org will provide over $20 million in funding across the selected projects. The program offers technical training, workshops, mentors, and pro bono AI coaching to help these organizations overcome barriers to generative Gemini adoption. Four out of five nonprofits in the cohort recognize the potential of generative Gemini, but nearly half face obstacles in its implementation. EIDU, one of the selected African organizations, uses generative Gemini to provide personalized tutoring services in low- and middle-income countries. Meanwhile, Jacaranda Health employs Natural Language Processing (NLP) in African languages to expand digital health services for underserved mothers. The other participants include Suki from the USA, Ankble from India, and Rexam from the UK. The Google.org Accelerator: Generative Gemini Cohort aims to empower nonprofits with the tools and knowledge to harness generative Gemini for social impact. By supporting organizations like Jacaranda Health and EIDU, the program seeks to drive innovation and progress in areas critical to global development.
