Google's Gemini & Meta AI Expand Wearable Tech Capabilities
Google's Gemini technology is now available on Pixel and Galaxy Watches, while Meta AI's live translation feature has expanded to four languages. Both offer unique AI experiences, each with its own strengths and limitations.
Google's Gemini, integrated into Pixel and Galaxy Watches, provides more accurate and up-to-date information than Google Assistant. It can list out detailed information directly on the watch display. Gemini leverages Google's extensive knowledge graph and can pull data from a wide range of Google and Samsung apps, performing tasks right on the watch. However, it's not perfect; it still relies on your phone for processing power and battery life, which is better on Android watches.
Meta AI, on the other hand, offers live translation between French, Italian, Spanish, and English. It can sync with various apps like Spotify, Audible, and Instagram, plus Android and iOS messaging apps. Meta AI also has the potential for contextual AI, recording and interpreting everything you see throughout the day, but this feature is not yet available. While Meta AI can provide general Llama 4-based information, its answers may sometimes be brief or require follow-up questions for clarity.
Both Google's Gemini on Wear OS and Meta AI on glasses offer compelling AI experiences. Gemini excels in providing detailed information and performing tasks on the watch, while Meta AI shines in live translation and potential contextual AI. Neither is perfect, but they represent significant steps forward in wearable AI technology.
