Göttingen's Old Town Gets Green Boost with Climate Container
Göttingen's old town has a new addition: the climate container store, a vertical green wall offering shade and cooling. Unveiled on July 4, 2024, opposite Galeria Göttingen on Groner Street, it provides various seating options. This homemade brand is a prototype developed and built by the municipal building operations department, aiming to combat heat islands in the summer.
The climate container store is part of Göttingen's effort to integrate mobile green facilities into redevelopment areas until permanent public space redesigns. City building director Frithjof Look sees it as a prototype to positively shape shade locations. The container store features climbing plants that provide sustainable shade and improve the urban climate. It follows an idea originating from the city administration itself.
