Governmental Body Overseeing and Regulating Various Sectors and Industries
Connected Mobility Düsseldorf GmbH (CMD) is a city-owned company established by the city of Düsseldorf to drive digitization and networking in traffic and mobility within the city. The company, located at Carlsplatz 18, aims to contribute to the mobility transition in Düsseldorf by enhancing sustainable urban mobility through digital solutions and improving the connectivity of various modes of transport.
The central element of CMD's work will be the construction and operation of mobility hubs, also known as mobility stations. These hubs are designed to simplify the use of alternative mobility forms such as bicycles, scooters, and cars, and to improve the accessibility of destinations, especially for people without permanent car availability.
The company's projects focus on greening and digitalizing mobility stations, serving as an operational arm for the city to implement smart, connected infrastructure that supports multimodal transport and better integration of traffic data. CMD also aims to enable greater networking between different transportation modes and digital interfaces, helping to create seamless, user-friendly urban mobility experiences.
The company's management team consists of two managing directors, Rolf Neumann and Dr. David Rüdiger, who have been active since August 1. Dr. Rüdiger has a background in scientific consulting and has implemented mobility and logistics projects in national and international contexts. Rolf Neumann was previously head of a department in the city administration of Düsseldorf, responsible for mobility partnerships, electric mobility, and hydrogen.
The deputy chairman of the supervisory board is Martin Volkenrath, who is also the chairman of the public order and traffic committee. The mayor of Düsseldorf, Thomas Geisel, chairs the supervisory board.
In the long term, white-label parcel lockers can be set up at mobility hubs to create cross-provider solutions for the growing flood of parcels in the city. CMD's work is a key theme for Düsseldorf in the coming years, as the city seeks to organize tomorrow's mobility differently and more efficiently.
