Guernsey Joins UK's Digital ID Project for Streamlined Passport Applications

The President of Policy and Resources, Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, has revealed Guernsey's involvement in the UK's plans for a digital ID system. This move aims to replace the current common app-based passport application process.

The new system, part of a UK-wide project, aims to streamline the common app process. Islanders may have a say in the plans, as His Majesty's Passport Office considers public consultation. Guernsey will collaborate with Jersey, the Isle of Man, and Gibraltar to implement this change. The shift to online common app applications is set for 2027. Despite the plans, the name of the government department head responsible for the implementation in the Guernsey Border Agency remains unknown, and no specific timeline for its publication has been provided.
