Halton Police Launches New Social Media Channels, Warns of Auto Theft Rise

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has revamped its social media presence, with tailored content now available on its official account, @HaltonPolice, and dedicated traffic (@HRPS_Traffic) and community (@HRPS_Comm) channels. The service has also published its 2024 report online, providing valuable insights into local crime statistics and trends.

The report highlights a rise in auto theft and break and enter occurrences, prompting the HRPS to urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. To facilitate this, the service encourages the use of Crime Stoppers, an independent, non-profit charity that enables anonymous tip-offs about various criminal activities, including drugs, theft, child abuse, human trafficking, terrorism, and escaped criminals. As of December 31, 2024, the three Halton Police X accounts had a combined following of 181,256, indicating a strong public interest in community policing.

Founded in 1989, Crime Stoppers is a global initiative that supports the solving of crimes through anonymous tips. It operates internationally through Crime Stoppers International (CSI), which supports national and regional chapters. Locally, Crime Stoppers Halton is part of this network, providing a vital service to the community by encouraging anonymous reporting.

The Halton Regional Police Service's 2024 report underscores the importance of community involvement in crime prevention. By reporting suspicious activity to Crime Stoppers, residents can play a crucial role in keeping their communities safe. With a strong social media presence and an engaged public, the HRPS is well-positioned to continue its fight against crime in the region.
