Honda unveils blueprint for design, advanced driver assistance systems, electric vehicles, fuel efficiency, and technology development

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. is set to revolutionise the electric vehicle (EV) market with the introduction of its new EV series, the Honda 0 Series, slated for a global launch in 2026. The series, unveiled at CES 2024, promises to redefine EV mobility with a focus on artistic design, safety, spacious interiors, joy of driving, and outstanding electricity efficiency performance.

At the heart of the 0 Series lies a strategic approach called "Thin, Light, and Wise." This philosophy aims to reduce the vehicle's height and overall weight, enhancing efficiency and performance, while providing spacious, flexible interiors with superb visibility. The compact e-Axle, a key component of the 0 Series, optimises packaging and efficiency, contributing to the slim architecture of the vehicle and supporting the overall "Thin and Light" concept, aiding in weight reduction and performance optimisation.

Another critical aspect of the 0 Series is the thin, high-density battery pack. Developed by Honda, this battery pack ensures faster charging—from 15% to 80% capacity in just 10 to 15 minutes—and boasts long battery life with over 90% capacity retention after ten years. The battery pack is integral to the slim vehicle design.

The 0 Series also features an active aerodynamic system that dynamically optimises airflow to improve driving efficiency and range, consistent with the vehicle's streamlined design philosophy emphasised in the "Thin and Light" approach.

In the realm of intelligence, the 0 Series embraces advanced systems and personalised user experiences powered by the newly developed ASIMO OS (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility), Honda's proprietary operating system. The system enables ultra-personal optimisation, intelligent driving features, and enhanced human-machine interaction to make vehicles "wiser" through technology.

Honda is also partnering with Helm.ai to integrate AI-based driving technologies, deploying behaviour models for adaptive autonomous driving that can handle various conditions and uncommon scenarios. The aim is for AI that can both take orders and make intelligent decisions autonomously.

The production model of the Saloon, one of the two concept models unveiled at CES 2024, will serve as the flagship model of the Honda 0 Series. Honda is striving to realise both sporty driving unique only to Honda and the world's top-class electricity efficiency performance in its EVs.

By 2030, Honda plans to introduce a total of seven Honda 0 Series models globally, including small-, medium- and large-size models. The company is also advancing its production technologies, including the adoption of a 6,000-ton class megacasting machine for IPU (battery) case production, improving overall production efficiency and limiting required capital investment.

Honda is committed to limiting the degradation of battery capacity (range) to less than 10% after 10 years of use by applying battery degradation diagnosis and prediction technology. The company is also looking towards the future, advancing battery technology toward solid-state batteries for future iterations that would offer even higher energy density, faster charging, improved safety, and longer lifespan.

As Honda prepares for the 2026 global launch of the Honda 0 Series, the automotive world eagerly awaits the new era of EV mobility that the series promises to bring. At CES 2025, Honda will unveil a new Honda 0 Series model, showcasing technologies and electrification concepts introduced during the Honda 0 Tech Meeting. The future of EVs is undeniably exciting, and Honda is leading the charge.
