Hydrogen Compressor Contract Granted to Howden for Atura Power Niagara Hydrogen Facility

In a significant move towards a more sustainable future, Atura Power and Howden have announced a partnership to establish Ontario's first low-carbon hydrogen production facility. The Niagara Hydrogen Centre, located in Niagara Falls, is set to become the largest green hydrogen production facility in the province.

Howden, a leading player in hydrogen compression and the energy transition, has been awarded a contract to provide five hydrogen diaphragm compressors for the project. The compressors will take hydrogen from the electrolyzers and compress it for on-site, short-term mobile storage.

The Niagara Hydrogen Centre, powered by renewable hydroelectricity, will produce 20MW of green hydrogen. Salah Mahdy, Global Director, Renewable Hydrogen at Howden, expressed his pleasure that Howden's solutions will support Atura Power's plan to build one of Canada's largest green-energy hubs.

The green hydrogen produced will be used for immediate consumption, providing low-carbon fuel for various applications. Additionally, the hydrogen will be transported and blended into the fuel stream at Atura Power's Halton Hills Generating Station, creating cleaner electricity for Ontario.

The collaboration between Howden and Atura Power is an example of their efforts to support the energy transition and advance a more sustainable world. This project is one of the significant projects Howden has been involved in recently, also including the supply of hydrogen compressors for the largest hydrogen refueling station in the world in China and for the refueling stations at the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022.

Howden is also supporting the world's first climate neutral fuel (eFuel) plant located in Chile and is creating solutions for the first fossil-free steel plant in the world in Sweden. The Atura Power Niagara Hydrogen Centre was completed in June 2025.

Atura Power President, Shelley Babin, did not make any specific statements in the provided paragraph. However, the partnership between the two companies is a testament to their commitment to a cleaner, greener future. This collaboration is an example of how they are working together to support the energy transition and contribute to a more sustainable world.
