Hyster's New Forklift Pedestrian Detection System Enhances Workplace Safety
Hyster has introduced a new pedestrian detection system for its forklifts, enhancing safety for both operators and pedestrians. The system, part of the 'Hyster Reaction' driver assistance technology, uses a camera to identify pedestrians within a five-meter range and alerts drivers accordingly.
The system, designed by Daniel Heap, Manager, Product & Commercial - Technology & Connected Fleet at Hyster, is crucial for maintaining situational awareness, especially in busy work environments. It adapts to various lighting and environmental conditions, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
The camera is mounted on the back of the forklift, facing away from the forks, and warns drivers with audio alerts and visual cues on the display. The warning signals deactivate once the pedestrian leaves the camera's field of view or the forklift moves away. The system is available on Hyster J Series and Hyster E Series models, with configurations offering acoustic, optical, and traction alarms. It operates effectively at a maximum driving speed of 8 km/h, providing operators ample time to react to warnings.
Hyster's new pedestrian detection system, integrated into the 'Hyster Reaction' technology, significantly boosts safety in workplaces. By precisely identifying pedestrians and alerting drivers, it helps prevent accidents and ensures a safer working environment.
