Hyundai Makes History in Australia with First Xcient Fuel Cell Truck Sale
Hyundai has made history in Australia by selling its first Xcient fuel cell truck to Coregas. The truck, which runs on hydrogen, is set to revolutionise heavy transport, marking a significant step towards cleaner energy.
The Hyundai Xcient Fuel Cell Truck boasts an impressive driving range of up to 400 kilometres on a single tank. However, refuelling can take between 8 to 20 minutes, depending on the station's pressure, which is a slight drawback given the scarcity of hydrogen refuelling stations in Australia. Despite this, GLS, a logistics company, has already integrated one of these trucks into its daily operations since late 2023, using it for parcel deliveries. Coregas, on the other hand, plans to use its newly acquired truck to transport industrial, medical, and specialty cylinders.
Hyundai's CEO in Australia, Don Romano, hailed this sale as a milestone for the company. Alan Watkins, executive general manager at Coregas, echoed this sentiment, stating that this partnership is a step towards accelerating the clean energy transition in heavy transport.
The Hyundai Xcient Fuel Cell Truck, with its long driving range and clean energy source, is poised to make a significant impact on Australia's heavy transport sector. Despite the current scarcity of hydrogen refuelling stations, companies like GLS and Coregas are embracing this technology, paving the way for a greener future.
