Ibbenbüren Man Falls Victim to Investment Scam, Loses Large Sum
A 55-year-old resident of Ibbenbüren has fallen victim to investment scammers, losing a significant amount of money. The man was contacted by someone posing as an employee of a company, who pressured him to pay money and verify his identity via a link.
The scammer initially asked the man to pay a low four-digit sum to verify his identity. However, the situation quickly escalated. The man was told he had to pay a mid-four-digit amount to withdraw a large sum from his investment account, which showed a very high balance. Believing the promises of high profits, the man transferred the money in two installments. Later, he was encouraged to invest in cryptocurrency, leading him to transfer another low five-digit euro amount. It was only after making these transactions that the man realized he had been scammed.
The police have warned the public about such scams, advising people to be suspicious of high profit promises on alleged investment platforms and to be wary of increasing investment amounts.
The police are yet to identify the scammer, who contacted the man by phone and has not been publicly named. The victim, a 55-year-old from Ibbenbüren, has lost a substantial amount of money. Authorities urge caution when dealing with unsolicited offers of high returns on investments.
