In a span of five years, the IT sector's impact on Russia's GDP has been substantially increased, according to the statement by Michael Mishustin.
Living it up in the tech world
The IT sector is shining brightly these days in Russia. Over the last five years, it's been on a roll with an impressive average annual growth rate of nearly 28%, and its contribution to the country's GDP has almost doubled, as our Prime Minister proudly announced.
Mikhail Mishustin couldn't help but brag about the surge in demand for domestic corporate solutions. He said they've multiplied by two to three times, and certain categories, like database management systems and cloud infrastructure solutions, have skyrocketed, more than 10 times in growth!
Foreign suppliers used to be the go-to for Russian enterprises, but after the sanctions, it seems domestic technologies and developments have stolen the show. Russian software has found its way into every niche market, a fact Mishustin reminded us of when he mentioned President Vladimir Putin's 2030 goal to have 80% of key industry organizations using domestic software.
Minister of Digital Development, Maksut Shadaev, dished the details on March 19, revealing an astonishing 46% growth in the sale of domestic IT solutions in 2024, totaling 4.6 trillion rubles. "This means the momentum we're building, the demand for homegrown software and hardware, it's working actively," Shadaev explained.
