India conducted a trial operation of an advanced naval mine designed to counter threats underwater.
India's Naval Power on the Rise:
India's indigenously designed and developed multi-influence ground mine (MIGM) and advanced underwater naval mine, designed to counter modern stealth ships and submarines, has successfully undergone validation trials. The Defence Research of Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy conducted the test, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauding the success.
The MIGM, developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam, in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories, is equipped with multiple sensors that record influences such as Acoustic, Magnetic, Pressure, UEP/ELFE signatures generated by marine vessels. Bharat Dynamics Limited and Apollo Microsystems Limited have also played crucial roles in production.
Underwater mines have been a significant part of naval warfare for centuries, with nations like Britain, America, Japan, and Germany laying mines in sea routes during World War II. The validation trials of MIGM come at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan are escalating after the Pahalgam terror attack. In response, the Indian Navy destroyed a sea-skimming target in a "precision cooperative engagement," further demonstrating its defensive capabilities.
The Indian Navy's latest indigenous guided missile destroyer, INS Surat, also recently marked another milestone with a successful precision cooperative engagement of a sea-skimming target. This enhances India's defense capabilities, contributing to the nation's self-reliance efforts, known as Aatma Nirbhar Bharat.
In a show of force, the Navy shared a picture illustrating the "Trident of Naval Power" - a surface ship, a submarine, and a helicopter. The Navy also posted visuals of warships conducting multiple anti-ship and anti-surface missile firings in the Arabian Sea, showcasing its readiness and adaptability.
The MIGM represents a crucial component in India's strategic arsenal, bolstering its defense against modern maritime threats. As tensions persist, this indigenous system will prove instrumental in safeguarding India's maritime interests and maintaining regional stability.
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has been instrumental in the development of explosives for India's Navy, such as the multi-influence ground mine (MIGM), which plays a vital role in ensuring India's naval defense against modern stealth ships and submarines.
- The successful validation trials of the MIGM, a product of collaboration between the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory, other DRDO laboratories, Bharat Dynamics Limited, and Apollo Microsystems Limited, demonstrate India's advancements in micro systems technology and its commitment to self-reliance (Aatma Nirbhar Bharat).
- In addition to the MIGM, India's naval power is also augmented by cutting-edge technology, as seen in the precision cooperative engagement of a sea-skimming target by the Indian Navy, a testament to their focus on research and development.
