Supercharging Mobile Connectivity for Summer Dacha Getaways

Get ready for blazing-fast internet at your summer retreat! In a game-changing move, Megafon ramps up its network for the sun-drenched season, catering to dacha dwellers and holidaymakers in the Chelyabinsk region, and beyond. To ensure a seamless, uninterrupted digital experience even in the most off-the-grid locales, Megafon engineers revamped the network infrastructure in dachas and holiday hubs across 35 Russian regions.

The magic unfolds in the Southern Urals, where nearly 30 telecom facilities in the Ketovsky, Sosnovsky, and Argayashsky districts serve summer homes and tourist hotspots. With large-scale preparations for the summer rush, mobile internet speeds in the Sosnovsky municipal district jumped by 47%, and in Argayashsky - a staggering 85%!

Throughout Russia, more than 1,500 base stations received a much-needed facelift, linking countless summer retreats nationwide. Alongside dacha communities, technicians refined existing equipment and set up new stations in beloved tourist spots. From the picturesque "Ruskeala" mountain park to the serene Volga River banks in Konakovo, operational updates were completed on the Listvyanka shore of Baikal, the slopes of the "Cheget" track in the Elbrus region, the breathtaking Curonian Spit in Kaliningrad, and the picturesque Bugaz Spit in Krasnodar Territory. Work is also underway in bustling tourist hubs like Vladivostok, Novorossiysk, Makhachkala, Sochi, Anapa, and many more.

To achieve these speed boosts, engineers didn't just build new base stations. They also installed optical fiber lines, performed refarming to bolster LTE and LTE Advanced networks, and integrated cutting-edge MIMO technology for multi-channel data transmission. They expanded the frequency band spectrum across base stations, segmenting coverage zones into sectors, and thereby increasing network capacity in both bustling cities and secluded countryside retreats.

"As the summer unfolds, mobile traffic patterns shift: city-dwellers flock to the country, and prime vacation spots play host to travelers from coast to coast. To prepare our equipment for the warm season, we considered all location-specific challenges and employed resilient technical solutions, enabling us to escalate mobile internet speeds even under heavy network congestion. This allows subscribers to stay connected and reach their favorite digital services, no matter where the breeze might take them," says Alexei Titov, Megafon's technical director.
