**Introducing the Dongfeng M-Hero M817: A Luxury Electric Off-Road Vehicle for Modern Adventurers**
At the Shanghai Auto Show, Dongfeng Automobile has unveiled the M-Hero M817, a luxury electric off-road vehicle that promises to deliver a unique blend of power, performance, and intelligent driving technology.
The M817 is available in two main powertrain options: a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV). Both models are built on a dual platform architecture combining Dongfeng's Warrior Intelligent Off-Road Architecture M-tech and Huawei’s Tianyuan Architecture.
The PHEV variant is equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged range extender engine and dual electric motors, offering a combined system power of around 505 kW (687 hp) with a peak torque of 848 Nm. Some sources mention a more powerful 912 hp version. The M817 boasts an acceleration from 0-100 km/h in approximately 5.2 seconds, with some versions achieving 0-62 mph in 4.2 seconds. The battery pack has a capacity of around 31.7 kWh (CLTC standard), providing a pure electric range of 140-200 km, and a combined range exceeding 1,000 to 1,300 km when fully fueled and charged.
In terms of dimensions, the M817 measures roughly 5100 × 1998 × 1899 mm (length × width × height) with a wheelbase of about 3005 mm. Its approach angle of 33° and departure angle of 34° indicate a strong off-road geometry, capable of handling steep terrains and obstacles.
The M817's autonomous driving capabilities are powered by Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4 ADAS, supporting full-scenario intelligent driving from parking to high-speed navigation assistance. The system features over 160 intelligent parking scenarios, enabling semi-autonomous parking and maneuvering. It also includes capabilities for navigating complex and challenging terrains, enhancing driver confidence off-road.
The M817's technology suite includes Huawei’s Harmony OS cockpit for an intuitive in-car experience. The vehicle's roof is equipped with three LiDAR sensors, while the rear design incorporates an external "backpack" storage feature. The side rear windows feature floating ladders and perforated panels for customization options.
The Dongfeng M-Hero M817 off-roader started pre-sale, with the price yet to be announced. This vehicle targets enthusiasts who demand luxury, strong off-road capability, and advanced autonomous driving support in a hybrid electric powertrain package.
