JICA's Multifaceted Support in Vietnam: From Flood Control to Tech Education

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been actively supporting Vietnam in various sectors, including climate change mitigation, infrastructure development, and education. Recently, JICA introduced the SABO dam technology to control flash floods and assisted in constructing Vietnam's first SABO dam in Son La province. This initiative aligns with JICA's priorities, which mirror Vietnam's key reform pillars.

JICA is applying science, technology, and innovation to tackle climate change in Vietnam. Apart from flood control, they have supported the Yên Xá Wastewater Treatment Plant Project, one of the largest in Southeast Asia. In the realm of education, JICA is backing Vietnam-Japan University in launching a semiconductor engineering programme. Additionally, JICA is promoting AI development through partnerships with National Innovation Centre and Hà Nội University of Science and Technology.

JICA's commitment to human resource development is evident in its plans to focus on this area in the second half of the fiscal year 2025. They encourage the growth of small- and medium-sized enterprises, especially women-led businesses, through entrepreneurial training and improved access to finance. JICA is also assessing the impact of its long-term legal and judicial reform projects and continuing leadership training programmes.

JICA's multifaceted support in Vietnam ranges from climate change mitigation to infrastructure development and education. By aligning its priorities with Vietnam's key reform pillars, JICA is fostering a sustainable and technologically advanced future for the country.
