Kobo changes e-reader manufacturer for the revamped Kobo Clara BW model
Upgraded Kobo Clara BW Unveiled with Top Victory Electronics: A Competitive Shift
The digital reading world receives a boost with Kobo's latest iteration of Kobo Clara BW. Recently, this e-reader underwent a mid-cycle refresh, upgrading its battery life from 1500mAh to 2000mAh - an enhancement offering an essay's worth of extra reading time before needing a recharge.
One of the notable aspects of this revamp is the manufacturing shake-up. Kobo has bid adieu to decade-long partner Netronix, Taiwan's leading OEM, and embraced newcomer Top Victory Electronics for this specific device. Established in the early 2000s, Top Victory is a Taiwanese company specializing in e-readers and e-paper products, and – according to recent FCC filings – has taken over the production of the updated Kobo Clara BW.
While Netronix claims the title as the go-to OEM for Kobo's e-readers since 2009, and also serves as the OEM for the Barnes & Noble NOOK, Top Victory seems to be carving out its own path in the e-reader scene. It's an exciting period of change that could redefine strategies for both manufacturers and digital literature enthusiasts.
Pondering on the future, it remains a mystery whether Kobo will rely solely on Top Victory Electronics or hold onto its relationship with Netronix. Current inventory struggles with the Kobo Clara Colour and Kobo Sage in the United States further compound the uncertainty, as stocks won't be restocked until summer's beginnings.

The battery life of the newly unveiled Kobo Clara BW has been improved, offering more reading time on e-readers before requiring a recharge, thanks to its 2000mAh battery. With the partnership shift from Netronix to Top Victory Electronics, smartphones and gadgets may also see changes in the e-reader industry, as Top Victory Electronics specializes in e-readers and e-paper products.
