LEGO Pays Homage to the 1989 Game Boy with a Lifelike Replica, Including a Lenticular Screen to Recreate Gameplay Experience

The LEGO Group has announced the release of a new collectible set, the LEGO Game Boy, set to hit shelves on October 1, 2025. Priced at $60 USD (also €59.99 and £54.99), this 421-piece set is a near 1:1 scale replica of the classic Nintendo Game Boy handheld.

This display model features interactive details such as a +Control Pad, A and B Buttons, SELECT and START buttons, contrast adjustment and volume dials, and a Game Pak slot. It includes two brick-built Game Paks inspired by Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, along with interchangeable lenticular screens displaying the classic Nintendo start screen or game-specific visuals.

The LEGO Game Boy replica is a standalone product and does not require any external power source or electronic components to function. Instead, it uses printed tiles for various labels and details, which is beneficial for those who struggle with sticker application.

While the LEGO Game Boy replica is not a functional gaming device and cannot play actual Game Boy games, it does include functional elements such as physically pressable buttons, turning volume and contrast dials, a functional Game Pak slot, and a link cable port cover.

The Game Boy, first released in 1989, was not the most technologically advanced handheld at the time, but it had superior battery life and build quality compared to competitors. The LEGO Game Boy replica is designed to capture the deliberately robust aesthetic of the original device, measuring 5.5" tall and 3.5" wide.

The LEGO Game Boy replica marks the latest addition to the company's line of gaming-themed sets, following the interactive Nintendo Entertainment System set. It is a collector's item aimed at retro gamers and LEGO enthusiasts.

Pre-orders for the LEGO Game Boy set are now available at major retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, LEGO.com, and LEGO stores. Grab your chance to add this nostalgic piece to your collection!
