Lime Unveils £20m Action Plan to Boost Cycling in London

Lime, a leading provider of shared e-bikes and e-scooters, has announced a five-point London Action Plan worth £20m. The plan, aimed at ensuring new riders cycle and park more responsibly, seeks to improve e-bike parking, encourage cycling safety, and boost cycling rates in London by 2025.

Since its launch in 2018, over 4 million people have ridden a Lime bike or scooter in London. Last year alone, total Lime e-bike journeys taken in the city increased by 85%. These journeys, mostly during commuting hours, totaled more than 16 million.

The new action plan includes a £5m investment to create at least 2,500 more dedicated parking spaces for bicycles. Lime aims to build at least 1,500 of these additional spaces in the next 6 months. To identify additional parking spaces, Lime has set up a dedicated Private Land Parking Task Force.

Lime is also implementing technology advancements to address poor parking. The company is developing an improved AI end-trip photo review to block poor parking in real time.

Safety is a key focus of the plan. Lime has allocated £500,000 for improving rider safety. This includes a £250,000 safe riding campaign and a £250,000 commitment to improve access to cycling for more Londoners.

The increased investment in the Share the Joy fund will give a boost to those working in London's diverse communities to ensure more people experience the freedom and life-transforming power of cycling.

The on-street operations team of 400 will aim to collect or move 4000 bikes per day due to investments in improved operational processes. Lime's research shows that 49% of Londoners aged 18-34 hire a rental e-bike at least once a week.

The fourth annual CiTTi Awards, which recognise and celebrate achievements and innovations in active travel, will take place on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. For more information about this event for the UK's transportation sector, visit www.cittiawards.co.uk.

The London Cycling Campaign, led by chief executive Tom Fyans, has praised Lime's efforts to improve its operations and ensure increased mobility benefits all Londoners. The Campaign calls for all councils and TfL to support this mobility revolution to ensure more Londoners have the chance to enjoy the benefits.

The organization that announced in June 2025 the creation of at least 2,500 additional parking spaces for electric bicycles in London is not identified in the provided search results. An additional £13.4m investment aims to take the on-street team up 60%, taking the team to over 400.
