Loxea Facilitates Introduction of BYD Electric Vehicles in Nigeria, Advancing Eco-Friendly Transportation Options
In a significant move towards sustainable mobility, LOXEA Nigeria, a subsidiary of CFAO Mobility group, has introduced BYD electric vehicles to the Nigerian market. The launch event took place at the Alliance Francaise in Ikoyi, Lagos, marking a new chapter in Nigeria's electric vehicle (EV) landscape.
Marc Hirschfeld, CEO of CFAO Mobility, highlighted BYD's entry into Nigeria as a significant opportunity to transform urban transportation in Africa. BYD, one of the leading electric vehicle manufacturers globally, is now available to Nigerian customers through LOXEA, making it the first company to introduce the globally recognized EV brand to Nigeria.
The BYD Atto 3 and BYD Dolphin models have been introduced, offering a modern space for customers to discover the future of mobility at the upcoming Victoria Island showroom. LOXEA is planning to open this new showroom, which will house Nigeria's first BYD charging station, further enhancing the convenience for EV owners.
The push for EV adoption in Nigeria is not a new development. The country is implementing an ambitious National Action Plan for EV adoption, including tax breaks and reduced import duties that encourage both local and international investment. This plan aims for at least 30% domestic EV production by 2032 to boost local manufacturing and job creation.
Nigeria's focus on scaling EV deployment and infrastructure aligns with the national goals and market growth forecasts, which estimate a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 6.8% for the Nigerian EV market from 2025 to 2031. Africa’s EV adoption is growing, with key countries leading the market and infrastructure development.
Mr. Mehdi Slimani, Managing Director of LOXEA Nigeria, expressed excitement about the introduction of electric vehicles and accompanying services. LOXEA is providing necessary infrastructure for EVs, including charging stations, maintenance and repair services, and the supply of authentic spare parts. The company also intends to offer flexible home-charging solutions to make electric vehicle ownership more accessible.
The vehicles were presented at the launch by 234 Drive, a platform recognized for its innovative approach to car culture. A creative collaboration with Pith Africa, a contemporary art collective, also took place at the launch, with Pith Africa designing a special cover for the BYD Atto 3 and launching a storytelling campaign titled "It All Starts with a Naija Dream."
As Nigeria continues to implement policies and incentives to support EV adoption, companies like LOXEA bringing BYD EVs to the market are expected to play a significant role in shaping Nigeria's urban transportation landscape and contributing to the continent's push towards sustainable transport.
The innovative collaboration between LOXEA Nigeria and BYD, a leading global electric vehicle manufacturer, brings technology and sports closer, as the BYD Atto 3 and BYD Dolphin models are designed with modern, spacious interiors, offering a futuristic experience – akin to stepping into a high-tech sports car.
With the introduction of BYD EVs and the opening of Nigeria's first BYD charging station, LOXEA is not just advancing technology but also contributing to the growth of sports in Africa, as electric vehicles are set to revolutionize the continent's transportation landscape, providing smoother, faster, and more environmentally-friendly means to travel, thus encouraging active participation in sports and recreation activities.
