The luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its latest compact car, the CLA, boasting a significant price increase at an initial cost of 55,859 euros. Despite the higher starting price, Mercedes is aiming to make the model more accessible to a wider range of customers with a variety of electric, hybrid, and conventional engine options.

The new CLA is built on a new electric architecture and is available in two all-electric versions: the CLA 250+ and the CLA 350 4Matic. The CLA 250+ comes with a single 200 kW/272 PS electric motor at the rear, while the CLA 350 offers two motors with a combined output of 260 kW/354 PS and all-wheel drive. Both models feature an 85 kWh battery, enabling up to 792 kilometers of range.

In addition to the all-electric options, Mercedes plans to introduce internal combustion engine versions of the CLA, which will use a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. These models are anticipated to improve efficiency and reduce costs compared to full-electric models. Future affordable CLA models will also include a second, smaller battery variant.

High demand for the CLA has led Mercedes to increase production to meet market needs, which may stabilize prices and availability. However, some customers face delivery delays, which could impact perceived affordability due to longer waiting times.

Mercedes is positioning the CLA to cater to a wide range of customers, aiming to compete with Tesla and other automakers. The company also plans to release more affordable CLA models in the future, with expectations that they will start at around 46,500 euros. After charging, both models can be charged at up to 320 kW.

The new CLA measures 4.72 meters in length, making it a compact yet spacious addition to the Mercedes lineup. The A-, B-, and T-Class models are phasing out, with the CLA set to define the entry point to the Mercedes world. As deliveries of the new CLA have already begun, potential buyers can look forward to experiencing the latest in Mercedes-Benz technology and design.
