Majority of German Companies Back Tech's Climate Lead, 46% Aim Neutrality

A significant majority of German companies, 86 percent, believe tech companies should spearhead the battle against climate change. This sentiment is echoed by 91 percent who want IT training to incorporate climate and sustainability aspects. Meanwhile, 46 percent have already committed to becoming climate neutral by a certain date.

The commitment to reducing emissions is clear, with 79 percent of companies aiming for climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest. This includes 22 percent targeting the next five years, 10 percent by 2040, and 14 percent by 2050. However, 27 percent want to reduce emissions but have not set a specific neutrality goal. Notably, 17 percent have not yet planned CO2 reduction but intend to in the future.

Digitization is seen as a key tool, with consistent and accelerated efforts in industrial manufacturing and mobility projected to cut 120 million tons of CO2 emissions by 2030 compared to 2019 levels.

German companies are increasingly aligning with the fight against climate change, with a majority believing tech companies should lead the way. While many have set ambitious targets, some still need to develop concrete plans. The potential of digitization in reducing emissions is also recognized, highlighting a multi-faceted approach to tackling the climate crisis.
