Miami-Dade TV modernizes its broadcast system with PlayBox Neo equipment deployment

Miami-Dade TV (MDTV) has modernized its playout as part of a comprehensive broadcast infrastructure overhaul. The update, led by Enlighten Digital, includes the implementation of the PlayBox Neo system, a powerful solution for schedule creation, editing, and playout automation.

The heart of the PlayBox Neo system is the AirBox Neo server, which has replaced MDTV's existing automation and server setup in master control. This integration enables smooth 24/7 playout of both live and prerecorded content across multiple broadcast channels and streaming platforms.

One of the key benefits of the PlayBox Neo system is its ability to manage live signal switching and the insertion of prerecorded segments within the system, ensuring seamless broadcast operations. It also controls the inputs and outputs from a Rohde & Schwarz router, allowing it to integrate seamlessly with MDTV's existing routing infrastructure.

The system supports HD/4K production and transmission workflows, enhancing flexibility, reliability, and programming quality. The user-friendly interface, designed to be intuitive for the broadcast team, further facilitates easier operation and workflow management.

Additional features such as integrated crawl (ticker), shot box, and graphic overlays enrich on-air presentation and content customization. The modular design of the PlayBox Neo system also supports IP streaming.

Shawn Hinchey, chief of digital media services at Miami-Dade County, praised the PlayBox Neo system, stating that it was chosen for its ability to integrate smoothly into MDTV's existing environment, providing comprehensive automation and advanced live production capabilities with an emphasis on flexibility and reliability.

The ease of use of the PlayBox Neo system has become increasingly important in MDTV's environment. The system's scheduling tools, including ListBox Neo, have enhanced MDTV's workflow, according to Hinchey. The ability to easily build 24-hour daily playlists in ListBox Neo and transition them seamlessly into AirBox Neo for playout makes MDTV's production process more efficient.

The PlayBox Neo setup includes TitleBox Neo, an interactive CG, and the Multi-Backup Manager (MBM) for multichannel redundancy. The new workflow uses AirBox Neo servers for playout, and the system's Live Ingest controller gives MDTV the flexibility to schedule recordings efficiently.

The update includes a revamp of key components of MDTV's HD/4K production and transmission environment, including master control. The PlayBox Neo setup features master and redundant AirBox Neo systems with eight channels that interface directly with MDTV's routing switcher.

In conclusion, the PlayBox Neo system offers a robust solution for MDTV's broadcast infrastructure modernization, providing integrated playout automation, live signal switching, and input/output control, all while supporting HD/4K production and transmission workflows and offering a user-friendly interface.
