Microsoft to Host All Events Online Until July 2021
In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on in-person events, Microsoft has announced that all its events, both internal and external, will be digital-only until July 2021.
The decision to transition events to a digital-first format was communicated to Microsoft's most valuable professionals (MVPs) via an internal email. The email stated that Microsoft has been closely monitoring the global situation and re-assessing its in-person event strategy.
The cancellation of in-person conferences like "Build 2020", originally scheduled for May 19-21 in the US, and the MVP Summit, hosted by Microsoft in Seattle, has been confirmed. These cancellations are part of Microsoft's response to the ongoing pandemic and its impact on in-person events.
The report about Microsoft's decision was published in The Verge. The digital-only shift for Microsoft's events applies to conferences like "Ignite", "Build 2020", and the MVP Summit. Microsoft will rely on its own digital tools and Microsoft Teams to hold events remotely.
Microsoft has already demonstrated its ability to host successful digital events. For instance, the Windows 11 announcement via livestream on June 24, 2021, and the release of new cloud and AI-related services like Azure Quantum in early 2021, were all part of their broader shift to remote and digital formats prompted by the pandemic conditions.
It's important to note that the decision to make events digital-only is not limited to specific events but applies to all events until July 2021. The decision to cancel "Build 2020" and the MVP Summit was not communicated to Microsoft's MVPs via an internal email, unlike the decision to transition events to a digital-first format.
Interestingly, a report about the cancellation of "Build 2020" and the MVP Summit was not published in The Verge, but it is a continuation of the digital-only strategy for Microsoft's events.
As we navigate through these challenging times, Microsoft's commitment to its community and its ability to adapt to the changing landscape is evident. The company continues to prioritise the safety and well-being of its attendees, partners, and employees.
