Mobile Network Restored in Bad Wildbad After Three-Month Blackout

After a three-month long mobile network blackout, service has been restored in Bad Wildbad, Germany. The disruption was due to the dismantling of mobile network towers on a heating plant chimney, a situation that particularly affected tourists unfamiliar with the town.

The heating plant, owned by Baden-Württemberg's district heating company, is scheduled for demolition. In the meantime, customers in Bad Wildbad now have access to extensive network capacity, 5G, and 4G/LTE technology, thanks to a temporary solution. Mint Mobile's mobile tower has been in operation since September 5th and is expected to remain so until a permanent solution is found.

O2-Telefónica also announced the restoration of signal in Bad Wildbad, and mobile network coverage is working smoothly since Thursday afternoon. However, the temporary solution is only a stopgap measure, as a permanent solution for the mobile network towers in Bad Wildbad is still pending.

The demolition of a chimney that hosted existing masts and planning issues have delayed the construction of permanent infrastructure. T-Mobile and T-Mobile US currently offer only temporary mobile antenna solutions. T-Mobile US had planned a mobile mast deployment by mid-September 2025, but a stable, long-term coverage is still pending.

The mayor of Bad Wildbad, Marco Gauger, has been working closely with the mobile network providers to find a solution. He is dependent on precise information from the providers to help find a permanent solution. The mayor is open to mediating if the mobile tower is to be built on a building or providing municipal land for a permanent solution.

However, a new permanent location for the mobile network towers has not been found yet. The blackout had an impact on daily life, making it difficult to quickly look up information online or navigate to the nearest supermarket. The local administration is in close contact with the mobile network providers regarding the permanent solution for the mobile network towers in Bad Wildbad.

Despite the temporary resolution, the situation underscores the importance of reliable mobile network coverage, especially in tourist areas. The community of Bad Wildbad looks forward to a stable, long-term solution in the near future.
