Night Flight Training to Increase Helicopter Activity in Sankt Augustin

Residents of Sankt Augustin and nearby areas should expect increased helicopter activity in the coming months. The Federal Police Aviation Group, based in Sankt Augustin, will conduct a night flight training from October 6 to December 19, 2025. This training is a legal requirement for licensing pilots and ensuring safe nighttime operations.

The Federal Police Aviation Group, the second-largest operator of civil aircraft in Germany after Lufthansa, supports the daily tasks of the Federal Police. This includes border, rail, and sea surveillance, as well as providing air transport capacity for federal police intervention forces on weekends.

The training will take place at the flight school for police service in Sankt Augustin-Hangelar. Residents may notice an increased number of flights from Monday to Thursday between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM during this period.

The night flight training is necessary for the safe performance of police helicopter tasks at night. Although there may be temporary noise disturbances, the training is legally required for the licensing of pilots. The Federal Police Aviation Group apologizes for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the local community.
