Optimism Airdrops Over 265 Million OP Tokens, More to Come
Over 265 million OP tokens have been distributed across five airdrops by Optimism, with around 550 million tokens still reserved for future distributions. The latest airdrop occurred on October 9, 2024, and the coins can be claimed until February 13, 2025.
Optimism, a layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum, introduced support for Layer 3 networks within the OP Stack in May. The first airdrop took place on May 31, 2022, rewarding users of the Superchain ecosystem, which includes rollups like OP Mainnet, Base, Zora, and others.
The fifth airdrop, held recently, distributed 10.3 million OP tokens (~$16 million) to 54,700 unique addresses. To qualify, wallets had to interact with at least 20 smart contracts within the Superchain ecosystem between March 15 and September 15, 2024. Bonuses were awarded for actions such as delegating OP or using seven protocols within the ecosystem.
In the last 24 hours, the price of OP decreased by 6% and is currently trading at $1.53.
Optimism has successfully distributed over a quarter of its OP tokens through airdrops, with more to come. The latest airdrop rewarded active users of the Superchain ecosystem, demonstrating Optimism's commitment to engaging its community.
