Plan-B Net Zero Aims for 280 MW Battery Storage in Germany

Plan-B Net Zero, a Swiss company specialising in renewable energy and sustainability services, has revealed ambitious plans for the German market. The company, through its German subsidiary, aims to install a significant battery storage capacity and integrate it with hydrogen systems for grid balancing.

Plan-B Net Zero has set a target of 280 MW for battery storage in Germany. The company's subsidiary has grown its annual recurring revenue to €120 million, demonstrating its success in the market. The company's vision is for an energy system that is digital, decentralised, and decarbonised, with the ability to stabilise itself.

To achieve this, Plan-B Net Zero proposes using battery energy storage systems for short-term grid fluctuations and hydrogen systems for seasonal storage. The company has developed a concept that integrates these systems, ideal for the German, Austrian, and Swiss grids. This concept includes AI-based systems to manage the interaction between solar generation, battery storage, and electrolyzers based on weather forecasts, electricity prices, and grid load.

Heat Power AG, a Swiss company, has played a significant role in this development. After completing a CHF 4.5 million capital increase in September 2021, the company is now focusing on developing battery storage systems and integrating them with hydrogen systems to advance its energy solutions. This capital raise brought Heat Power AG's share capital to CHF 5.0 million.

Plan-B Net Zero is developing a pipeline of approximately 1.3 GWh of battery storage projects, some of which could be coupled with hydrogen systems. Despite not disclosing pilots, operating projects, potential sizing, or partnerships in the announcement, the company's vision for the German market is clear. By integrating battery storage and hydrogen systems, Plan-B Net Zero aims to create a more stable, sustainable, and efficient energy system.
