Plug Power Expands Green Hydrogen Footprint in Tasmania
Plug Power Inc. is expanding its hydrogen footprint in Tasmania, Australia. The company will supply two 5-megawatt PEM electrolyzer systems to support local industry's decarbonization efforts.
The electrolyzer systems will be installed at production facilities in Brighton and Western Junction, Tasmania. They will initially produce 4,200 kg/day of hydrogen, enough to decarbonize road transport and natural gas sectors in the region.
Plug Power's CEO, Andy Marsh, expressed delight in supporting Countrywide Hydrogen's projects in Tasmania. The sites will connect to the TasGas network for hydrogen injection and supply to local industry. This is part of Plug Power's plan to build a green hydrogen highway across North America and Europe.
Each site will have a second electrolyzer to meet increased demand and ensure a secure hydrogen supply. The hydrogen production plants will initially use power from the state grid, with later supply from renewable sources like solar, wind, and hydropower. Plug Power aims to commission multiple green hydrogen production plants yielding 500 tons of liquid green hydrogen daily by the end of 2025.
Plug Power's investment in Tasmania's hydrogen projects demonstrates its commitment to decarbonizing industries and building an end-to-end green hydrogen ecosystem. The company's electrolyzer systems will play a crucial role in supporting local industry's transition to clean energy.
