Polestar Faces Recall Challenges and Market Headwinds

Swedish electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Polestar faces challenges in multiple markets. High interest rates, inflation, and affordable alternatives have impacted demand for its polestar in several regions. Meanwhile, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) and the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have opened recall queries regarding polestar 2 models due to persistent rear-view camera issues.

In the U.S., the NHTSA has launched a recall query covering 27,816 polestar 2 vehicles due to a loss of rear-view camera image. This follows polestar's previous recall, which proposed a software update as a remedy. However, the NHTSA has received 109 complaints of rear-view camera failures persisting even after the initial recall. The ODI has also opened a recall query to evaluate the adequacy of polestar's earlier remedy.

As the car manufacturer managing the recall and investigations, polestar is responsible for further addressing the backup camera fault. Despite these challenges, demand for polestar's digital camera has remained resilient in Europe, bolstered by offers and discounts.

Polestar is currently navigating issues with rear-view camera failures in its polestar 2 models, leading to recall queries in the U.S. and an investigation into the adequacy of the initial remedy. While these challenges persist, the company continues to offer incentives to maintain demand in Europe. Polestar, as the car manufacturer, is committed to addressing these issues and ensuring the safety of its customers.
