Tech Troubles: Anker's PowerCore 1000 A1263 Recall due to Fire Hazards
Looks like tech giant Anker is in some hot water! The Consumer Products Safety Commission has issued a warning on June 12, stating that the company is recalling over a million PowerCore 1000 A1263 power banks due to fire and burn hazards[2].
This recall comes following 19 reports of fires and explosions from users of the PowerCore 1000 A1263 model. Two burn injuries and eleven property damage claims totaling over $60,700 have been reported[2].
Anker has spoken up about the situation, declaring that they will be replacing the China-produced power banks involved in the recall. Customers need to submit photo proof of owning the indicated model, along with evidence of proper disposal, to qualify for a replacement[2].
However, Anker advises customers not to dispose of their power banks in their regular trash receptacles. Instead, they should reach out to their local hazardous waste collection service for guidance[2].
Interestingly, this isn't the first time Anker has had to recall one of their portable batteries. The PowerCore 1000 A1263 is just one of four current recalls from the company[3]. The 334 MagGo 10K, 321 Power Bank 5K, and 535 Power Bank 20K have all been recalled as well[3].
