Powerscourt Distillery Visitor Centre Opens in Wicklow, Showcasing Premium Design by Millimetre
The new Powerscourt Distillery Visitor Centre, a significant addition to Wicklow's tourism scene and Ireland's whiskey revival, has opened its doors. The centre, nestled in the old mill house of the Powerscourt Estate, offers tours, events, whiskey retail, and a café bar, all set against the backdrop of the Sugar Loaf Mountain.
MILLIMETRE DESIGN was tasked with creating the interior of the visitor centre, which includes an AV theatre, four tasting rooms, a gift shop, and a café bar. The design firm, led by Ronan Holohan, has crafted spaces that reflect the premium quality of Powerscourt Distillery's Fercullen whiskey. The design incorporates materials like oak, natural stone, and copper, echoing the distillery's setting and tradition.
The reception area welcomes visitors with a pyran glass floor, revealing the original underground mill, and a soundscape of running water. The retail space and café boast solid oak herringbone flooring and brass trim details. Each of the four tasting rooms, designed for smaller or private groups, also features premium finishes and decor. Ashley Gardiner, Co-founder/Director of Powerscourt Distillery, commended MILLIMETRE DESIGN's commitment and outstanding result.
The Powerscourt Distillery Visitor Centre, designed by MILLIMETRE DESIGN, opened in May 2023. It offers a unique experience, blending the distillery's history and premium products with a contemporary design that reflects its stunning surroundings. The centre is set to become a must-visit destination in Wicklow's tourism sector.
