Return of Northern Kentucky University's 'Born Before AI' Lecture Series, Slated for April 18
The second season of Northern Kentucky University's (NKU) popular "Born Before AI" lecture series is currently underway, offering an engaging exploration of artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications across various disciplines.
The series, hosted by NKU's College of Informatics, is free of charge thanks to the generous support of Ellen Rieveschl. Registration is required for each session, which can be easily done through the NKU website.
The first lecture of this season, held on April 18, featured a talk by Dr. Kevin Kirby titled "The Core of AI: What it does, How it does it, and Where it's headed." The second part, scheduled for April 25, will be guided by NKU faculty and students, with Shannon Eastep delivering a talk on "From Chalkboards to Chatbots: How AI is shaping K-12 learning."
The series continues on three consecutive Fridays at 3 p.m., with the third part taking place on May 2. This session is designed for those with little to no prior exposure to generative AI and will feature a hands-on session introducing a variety of AI tools. The topic for this part is "Experiencing AI."
The series also includes discussions on AI's role in the modern world. Dr. Valerie Hardcastle will discuss "AI knows better than your mother: The promise of hyper-personalized medicine," while the guest speakers for the third event of the series in 2023 are yet to be publicly listed.
The "Born Before AI" lecture series takes a multi-generational approach to engaging people with AI and is primarily designed for post-career individuals. However, all are welcome to attend and learn about the integration of artificial intelligence in education.
The lectures will also focus on new developments in AI over the past year, with NKU experts including Dr. Kevin Kirby, Dr. Valerie Hardcastle, Shannon Eastep, and Dr. Robert Brice contributing to the discussions.
