Russian Citizens Warned of 'Gosuslugi' Scam Targeting Finances and Data

Russian citizens are warned about a new scam targeting their finances and personal data. Cybercriminals are exploiting the popular 'Gosuslugi' portal, using a Telegram bot and phishing tactics to dupe unsuspecting users.

The scam operates in two ways. Firstly, scammers have created a Telegram bot mimicking the official 'Gosuslugi' portal. Users are tricked into interacting with this fake bot, leading to unauthorised transactions and financial loss.

Secondly, hackers are posing as university employees, contacting individuals and asking for their SMS codes. This is part of a larger operation, with hackers claiming the activity is related to an 'archive digitization' process. Once the codes are obtained, hackers gain access to the victims' 'Gosuslugi' accounts.

Russian authorities have confirmed that these hacker attacks on the 'Gosuslugi' portal occurred in July 2023 and were carried out by Chinese hackers. Users are advised to be vigilant, avoid interacting with unsolicited Telegram bots, and never share SMS codes with unknown parties. The 'Gosuslugi' portal has also issued a warning, urging users to verify the authenticity of any requests before complying.
