Samsung Galaxy's New Software: Comprehensive Insights on One UI 8
The tech giant Samsung has unveiled its latest software update, One UI 8, based on Android 16. This update promises to bring a host of improvements and new features to Samsung's devices, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.
One of the standout features in One UI 8 is the Reminder app, which has received a design makeover, making it cleaner and more intuitive. Users can now create reminders more easily and organise them into custom categories, each colour-coded for easy identification. The app also features separate category pages for same-day events, scheduled entries, important alerts, completed tasks, and active alerts.
The Reminder app in One UI 8 also offers new reminder templates, such as pickup, workout, payments, and more, to help users manage their tasks more effectively.
In the My Files app, finding data is now a bit easier due to the app-based filtering system. Users can also filter files according to the app from which the package was downloaded.
The updated split-view mode on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 allows the foreground app to occupy the majority of the screen, while the background app's UI is only visible as a bar. This feature is inspired by the Open Canvas system on OnePlus phones.
Samsung has also improved the Quick Share panel in One UI 8. The refreshed panel appears on the first page of the Quick settings panel and features large share and receive buttons, a QR code generator, and a less cluttered interface.
In the camera app, the swipe gesture can now be used to open a slide-out tray with composition tools and filters. Users can also customise the swipe gesture to access the camera quick controls.
Auracast, a new feature in One UI 8, allows users to share audio streams with other devices. Users can set a password for their audio broadcast, ensuring privacy. Auracast works with Samsung's wearables and Bluetooth LE Audio-compatible hearing aids.
It's worth noting that Android 16 was released earlier than expected by Google in 2025, allowing Samsung to roll out One UI 8 ahead of schedule. The initial devices with One UI 8 pre-installed are the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. The first stable update rollout starting September 2025 will be for the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, Galaxy S25 Ultra, and Galaxy S25 Edge. Other supporting models will follow in subsequent months, including the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 foldables, the Galaxy Tab S10/S9/S8 tablet series, and some mid-range A-series models.
One UI 8 does not make significant changes to Samsung's smartphone software appearance, ensuring a familiar and comfortable user experience.
