Samsung's Galaxy S22 Ultra Could Potentially Feature an S Pen and an Unattractive Camera Setup
The first alleged "real-world" snapshots of Samsung's upcoming flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, have surfaced. These images originate from Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech, a source known for its occasional accuracy. Although the photos seem to have been taken hastily, the back camera arrangement appears less impressive than the teasers from previous renderings.
These blurry images suggest that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is a phablet-sized device. One of the snaps even showcases an S Pen being withdrawn, indicating that the renders posted by Onleaks were somewhat correct – this is a revival of Samsung's Galaxy Note, though without the separate branding. The Galaxy S22 Ultra possesses distinct angular edges, a style that may resonate with Note fans who felt overlooked.

However, the rear camera design raises eyebrows. The cluster of four lenses and a sensor in close proximity does not appear as polished as Samsung's past flagship launches' camera setups. Unlike the camera arrangement on the S21 Ultra, which was seamlessly integrated, or the sleek and refined presentation in the prior renders, the Galaxy S22 Ultra's setup looks assembled, rather than meticulously thought out. Even Google managed to strategically place the three lenses on the back of the Pixel 6 without it appearing like an unwarranted addition of camera hardware.
According to Prosser, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will incorporate a 108MP wide-angle primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 10MP telephoto lens with 10x zoom, and another 10MP telephoto lens with 3X zoom. The details about which camera will utilize optical versus digital zoom are yet to be confirmed. The fifth circle on the back of the Galaxy S22 Ultra reportedly serves as a laser-autofocus sensor.
Other purported and unverified features of the Galaxy S22 Ultra include a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is also expected to be paired with up to 16GB of RAM and at least 512GB of storage.
With Samsung's lineup of non-folding, flat smartphones slated for release in a few months, the Galaxy S22 is rumored to hit the market in February, a timeframe that aligns with Samsung's historical launch dates.
The tech industry is eagerly anticipating the improvements in technology that the Galaxy S22 Ultra might bring for the future. Although the camera setup in the leaked images is less polished than Samsung's past flagships, the incorporation of a 108MP primary camera and advanced zoom lenses suggests promising advancements in photo capabilities.
