Scottish Airport's Military Role Raises Questions, SNP's Defence Stance Discussed

The Scottish Government, through Scottish Airports Ltd, currently owns Prestwick Airport, which has seen increased military activity. Sir Tom Hunter and Lord Willie Haughey recently discussed defence, cyber threats, and Scotland's role in the UK's defence economy on the Go Radio Business Show.

Sir Tom Hunter, a prominent businessman, shared his observations of Prestwick Airport, noting the regular presence of military traffic, including the Royal Canadian Air Force. He pointed out the contradiction of the airport being primarily a military base while under government ownership.

Sir Tom Hunter also commented on the SNP's stance on defence investment, stating it places the party in a difficult position. Meanwhile, Lord Willie Haughey, another influential figure, discussed cyber threats, revealing his business had been targeted by a suspected Russian state-linked cyber attack.

The UK government has recently announced Defence Growth Deals, expected to inject £250 million into defence innovation and small business development. Lord Willie Haughey welcomed this initiative, expressing its potential to support 'a lot of good jobs, a lot of quality jobs'.
