Segger's J-Link BASE Compact MCU debugger has been found to have a persistent issue with powering up when connected using e-marked USB-C cables. This problem, previously observed with the Raspberry Pi 4 in 2019, is due to incorrect wiring of CC1 and CC2 connections. The debugger's PCB revision is v12.1, indicating the issue has been present for some time.

The Segger J-Link BASE Compact debugger, part of the J-Link BASE family, is designed for debugging and programming microcontrollers. However, when connected using e-marked USB-C cables, the host device misidentifies the debugger as a USB-C audio dongle instead of a power supply. This incorrect identification prevents the debugger from receiving power, rendering it unusable.

The issue was first noticed with the Raspberry Pi 4 in 2019, affecting e-marked USB-C cables. It seems Segger's debugger has the same problem, despite being a more expensive and specialized device. The debugger retails for €400 + VAT, making the issue a significant oversight for a reputable brand.
