Self-repair service by Apple now accessible for public use.

Apple has announced the launch of its Self Service Repair program in the United States, allowing customers to repair their own devices using genuine Apple parts and tools. The program, which will expand to additional countries later this year, is part of Apple's commitment to increasing access to repairs and promoting sustainability.

Customers can now access repair manuals, parts, and tools for Mac computers with Apple silicon, as well as for iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone SE (3rd generation) on the Apple Self Service Repair Store. The store offers more than 200 individual parts and tools for these devices.

For those who prefer not to purchase tools for a single repair, Apple will offer tool rental kits for $49. In addition, for certain repairs, customers will receive a credit when returning a replaced part for recycling.

Apple's Self Service Repair program is supported by a global network of over 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Providers, which together employ more than 100,000 active technicians. Moreover, more than 3,000 Independent Repair Providers have access to genuine Apple parts, tools, and training.

Every genuine Apple part is designed and engineered for each product and goes through extensive testing to ensure safety, reliability, and security. Customers can review repair manuals on the website support.our website/self-service-repair before ordering parts and tools.

The Self Service Repair program is not limited to the US. In 2022, Apple offered the self-service repair program in select countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, and parts of Europe where original repair manuals, genuine Apple parts, and tools were made available via the Apple Self Service Repair Store. Self Service Repair will expand to additional countries, beginning in Europe, later this year.

Apple's decision to expand its Self Service Repair program is detailed in a paper titled "Expanding Access to Safe, Reliable, and Secure Service and Repair," published by the company. The paper outlines Apple's approach to designing long-lasting products and increasing access to repairs.

In the US, eight out of 10 Apple customers are located within 20 minutes of an authorized service provider. Over the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service locations with access to genuine Apple parts, tools, and training.
