Seminar Dedicated to PCB Board Layout Engineering Design Techniques
Expert PCB Design Workshop with Robert Feranec at Sierra Circuits
Renowned hardware designer Robert Feranec is set to lead a two-day PCB design workshop at Sierra Circuits in Santa Clara, California, on May 17 and 18, 2023. The event will take place at the iconic Levi's Stadium.
Who is Robert Feranec?
With over 15 years of experience in hardware design and electronic product development, Robert Feranec has made a name for himself in the industry. He has designed motherboards based on Intel, AMD, and VIA processors, and has held a senior hardware designer position at VOIPAC, where he designed boards capable of running OS Linux or Windows.
In addition to his hands-on experience, Robert Feranec is also the CEO and owner of FEDEVEL Academy, where he teaches people and engineers through online courses. He has recorded number of popular hardware design educational videos watched over 2 million times on Google Youtube.
The Workshop's Curriculum
The workshop is designed for PCB designers and will cover the fundamentals of PCB design on the first day. This will include an introduction to PCB design concepts and terminology, an overview of PCB manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM), schematic capture and design entry best practices, component selection and footprint creation, basic layout techniques, and design rule checks (DRC) and electrical rule checks (ERC).
The second day will delve into advanced PCB design and practical applications. Topics will include advanced layout strategies for high-speed and high-frequency circuits, signal integrity basics and mitigation techniques, power distribution and ground plane design, thermal management and PCB reliability considerations, hands-on design exercises using PCB design software tools, and a review of common pitfalls and troubleshooting in PCB design.
Highlights of the Workshop
Day 1 of the workshop will include sessions on Crosstalk & Impedance, High-Speed Layout, High-Speed Design Rules, and a private visit to Levi's Stadium for lunch. A Q&A session will be held to address problems faced by participants related to high-speed design rules.
Attendees are encouraged to bring along their PCB layout issues for potential solutions from Robert Feranec. The training will cover practical aspects of PCB layout important for modern processor board design.
Importance of Controlled Impedance and High-Speed Design Rules
Robert Feranec will discuss the importance of calculating and minimizing crosstalk, and understanding high-speed layout and design rules. He encourages attendees to read about why controlled impedance really matters before attending the workshop.
