Serious Traffic Accident on A1 Highway Near Rotenburg
Emergency services were called to a serious traffic accident on the A1 highway near Rotenburg on September 30, 2025. The incident involved a collision between a VW Golf and an older Citroën, resulting in three people with minor injuries and significant highway closures.
The accident occurred at 20:47, with fire departments from Elsdorf, Gyhum, and Wehldorf responding swiftly. The cause of the collision remains unclear, but it led to both vehicles striking the guardrail and returning to the roadway. The fire department performed battery management to prevent potential fire hazards.
The incident caused substantial debris, covering around 200 meters of the highway. Cleanup and repair work on other lanes continued, with the left lane reopened by police shortly after. The local water authority was also called in due to the accident's location in a water protection area. Hazardous materials were spilled, which were absorbed by the fire department.
Three people were lightly injured and treated at the scene. The extent of vehicle damage and the cause of the accident could not be determined by the fire department.
