Protecting Your Smartphone from the Heat: A Guide
Smartphone Remains Functional at 30 Degrees Temperature
In scorching temperatures, safeguarding your smartphone is crucial to prevent permanent damage. Steffen Herget from the tech mag "c't" advises, "Steer clear of direct sunlight." The sweltering interior of a car is another no-go zone, as cars heat up swiftly.
This precautionary measure also deters potential thieves and shields the smartphone from extreme temperatures.
Keep an Eye on the Thermometer
"Modern smartphones often shut down or sound an alarm when things heat up," says Herget. However, relying solely on protection features isn't ideal. Instead, paying attention to the temperature is essential, especially surpassing 30 or 35°C.
Heavy heat can impact the display and battery, causing lasting damage. Signs might include parts of the display not functioning or showing improper colors. Overheated batteries lose capacity permanenlty.
Tips to Prevent Overheating
- Store your smartphone in shaded areas, such as bags, under an umbrella, or towels.
- If your device gets too warm, remove its case to facilitate cooling.
- Don't dunk a hot phone in the refrigerator or immerse it in cold water, even if it's waterproof, as sudden temperature changes can cause condensation and potential damage.
- Shut down the phone if it becomes overheated, allow it to cool gradually in the shade, and switch it back on only when it's near room temperature.
- Allow an idled, shut-down phone to rest before attempting to reboot it.

When the mercury rises, smartphones, gadgets, and technology may be at risk of overheating, potentially causing damage to their displays, batteries, and overall performance. To prevent smartphones from overheating, it's advisable to store them in shaded areas, remove their cases when necessary, avoid sudden temperature changes, and allow the device to cool gradually before rebooting it.
