SMCC to Acquire V Point Operator, Boosting Data-Driven Services

Sumitomo Mitsui Card Co. (SMCC) is set to acquire MK CCC Holdings Co., operator of the popular V Point loyalty program, by the end of March 2026. The acquisition aims to enhance user convenience through data integration.

SMCC plans to rename MK CCC Holdings Co. to V Point Marketing post-acquisition. This move will allow SMCC to utilise purchase data from the V Point loyalty program alongside deposit and payment data from the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group. Currently, SMCC and its financial group hold a 40% stake in MK CCC Holdings Co. After the acquisition, this stake will rise to 80%.

The acquisition price remains undisclosed but is estimated to be in the tens of billions of yen. Despite the significant investment, the main shareholder of V Point Marketing post-acquisition is yet to be confirmed.

The acquisition of MK CCC Holdings Co. by SMCC is expected to strengthen the company's data-driven services, offering users a more convenient experience. The increased stake will also solidify SMCC's position in the loyalty program market.
