Sony Music, Universal Music Group Join Forces to Protect Artists' Rights in AI Era

Sony Music's Dennis Kooker, President of Global Digital Business, has pledged to safeguard artists' rights while exploring AI's innovative potential. This commitment comes as SoundPatrol Inc. announces a significant collaboration with Universal Music Group (UMG) and Sony Music to combat copyright infringement by AI music generators.

SoundPatrol, founded by Michael Ovitz and Dr. Walter De Brouwer, aims to develop tools that help third-party platforms prevent copyright violations. The company's patent-pending 'forensic AI model for audio-video fingerprinting' uses neural embeddings to identify original human-created music in AI-generated content. This advanced technology, known as Neural Fingerprinting, goes beyond traditional audio fingerprinting by capturing semantic relationships, enabling it to detect covers, remixes, and generative-AI derivatives.

Sir Lucian Grainge, UMG's Chairman and CEO, supports this collaboration to protect artists' creative integrity and work. Ovitz considers this a major victory for all artists, addressing the long-standing issue of intellectual property theft in the creative universe.

SoundPatrol's innovative approach, backed by UMG and Sony Music, promises to protect artists' rights in the generative AI era. By maintaining control, authenticity, and monetization of their intellectual property, artists can continue to thrive in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
