Standard Nuclear & Framatome Join Forces to Boost U.S. Nuclear Power with TRISO Fuel
Standard Nuclear and Framatome have joined forces to create a joint venture, aiming to produce two metric tons of TRISO fuel annually by 2027. This marks a significant increase from current lab-scale output and a promising step for the U.S. nuclear power industry's revival.
TRISO fuel, used in advanced reactors, will be the focus of this collaboration. Standard Nuclear, the first company to join the U.S. Department of Energy's Reactor Fuel Line Pilot Program in August, has now partnered with Framatome to drive this initiative.
The program, which also includes Oklo Inc., TRISO-X LLC, and Valar Atomics Inc., aims to boost nuclear power production. Globally, Goldman Sachs estimates a 50 percent growth in nuclear power over the next 15 years, fueled by increasing energy demand from data centers and artificial intelligence.
The joint venture between Standard Nuclear and Framatome, set to produce two metric tons of TRISO fuel annually by 2027, signals a significant step in the U.S. nuclear power industry's revival. This move aligns with global trends and could help meet growing energy demands.
